There are some evergreen branches nearby on a chair. I wanted a wreath, but the guy at the farmers' market wasn't able to get the metal wreath blanks, so he just had trees n branches.
For the past several years I've wanted some kind of evergreen-ness in the house over the winter solstice, but Mike takes a dim view of the so-called "hannukah bush".
I finally told him, hey, it's not a hannukah bush OR a christmas tree, it's a *solstice bough*. I don't want a to cut down a tree, I just want some branches.
And I want to LIGHT THEM UP because I really don't like the whole "short dark day" thing and am very much needing a reminder that someday soon we'll start heading back to longer days.
Now I kinda think he gets it.
It's tough when you want to go back and start living your own life again, and realize that some things are always going to be out of reach because of choices you made. The good outweighs the bad, most of the time, but nothing is perfect. Perfection is stasis, and change is life.
